Republican campaign «Archives for School» in BGAMLI

On October 9, 2024, the republican campaign «Archives for School» was held in the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI). For students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No. 27 of Minsk», a sightseeing tour of the building of the former Bernardine monastery (St. Joseph’s Church), which now houses the archive-museum, was held. The building is one of the few monuments of the 17th century Baroque in Minsk.

During the tour, the schoolchildren walked around the archive building, paid attention to the preserved decorative elements and other unique artifacts of the historical building. Each participant in the tour was able to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of history and architecture of their hometown, learn interesting information about the educational activities of the Bernardines (in the old days, a school and a library were located at the church).

Natalia Aleksandrovna Mizon, an employee of the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents of BGAMLI, told the children about the funds available in the archive-museum, about the peculiarities of storing valuable documents and museum items, about the activities of archivists who carry out work to preserve and pass on the heritage of Belarusian literature and culture to future generations. The schoolchildren learned that the archive-museum contains personal letters and diaries of famous writers, artists and composers. In addition, the students visited an exhibition in the reading room of BGAMLI dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the people’s writer of Belarus Vasily Vladimirovich Bykov. The materials presented at the exhibition reflect the life and creative path of the writer. After the excursion, the schoolchildren shared their impressions and expressed gratitude to the BGAMLI employees.
