BGAMLI and NARB employees took part in the cultural and patriotic event «You are from the West, I am from the West Belarus…» at the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum

On September 17, 2024, employees of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as the BGAMLI) and the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter referred to as the NARB) took part in the cultural and patriotic event «You are from Zakhodnyai, I am from Uskhodnyai Belarus../» dedicated to the Day of National Unity, organized at the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum.

85 years ago, on September 17, 1939, the reunification of Western and Eastern Belarus began. Yanka Kupala also took part in the most important event of that significant year – the People’s Assembly of Western Belarus in Bialystok. The exhibition «Untitled» has opened in the Yanka Kupala State Literary Museum, dedicated to the Day of National Unity. The central exhibit of the exhibition is Yanka Kupala’s poem of the same name. The curator of the exhibition, Maria Bartkova, told how this poem was created 100 years ago, in 1924, when the first consolidation of the BSSR took place. The exhibition includes the manuscript of the poem, ten sections of which are united by the symbolic image of Belarus, which has gone through a difficult path and «settled in its own little house». During the event, as part of the social and cultural campaign «Let’s Read Kupala Together», lines from the poem «Untitled» and poems from Yanka Kupala’s cycle «Na zadne – belarusskie matyvy» were recited.

At the end of the event, the employees of BGAMLI and NARB shared their opinions on the need for a respectful attitude to memorable dates in the history of Belarusian statehood. National Unity Day, first of all, symbolizes the national, state and territorial integrity of Belarus, emphasizes the significant historical foundation of modern statehood. It is a symbol of the historical formation of the Belarusian nation, the sincere desire of Belarusians to live as one friendly family.
