Participation of BGAMLI in the International Scientific Conference dedicated to the 85th Anniversary of the Unification of Belarus and the Day of National Unity

On September 17, 2024, the director of the Belarusian State Archives and Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) E.A.Makarenko took part in the International Scientific Conference «Western Belarus (1921-1939) – History, Culture, Literary Movement – and Modern Problems of Development», dedicated to the 85th Anniversary of the Unification of Belarus and the Day of National Unity, organized by the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

Welcoming speeches to the conference participants were made by the Director of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies, Doctor of Philology, Professor I.V.Saverchenko, Academician-Secretary of the Department of Humanities and Arts of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician A.A.Kovalenya, Director of the Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Academician A.I.Lokotko, Chairman of the Minsk City Branch of the Union of Writers of Belarus M.P.Poznyakov and others.

Plenary reports were made by the Leading Researcher of the Center for General History, International Relations and Geopolitics of the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor O.N.Borovskaya, Associate Professor of the Department of History of Belarus, Archeology and Special Historical Disciplines of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor A.S.Gorny, Senior Researcher of the Department of Theory and History of Literature of the Yanka Kupala Institute of Literary Studies, Candidate of Philology, Associate Professor I.E.Bogdanovich and etc.

In her report «Documents of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art as a source on the history of the reunification of Western Belarus with the BSSR», E.A.Makarenko spoke about documents on the history of Western Belarus (1921-1939) stored in the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the BGAMLI, and their importance in studying the role and place of the Belarusian intelligentsia in the national liberation movement of Western Belarus.

September 17, 1939 is an act of historical justice in relation to the Belarusian people, divided against their will in 1921 under the terms of the Riga Peace Treaty. Archival materials of the NARB and the BGAMLI contribute to strengthening the cohesion of society and remind us of the self-sufficiency of the Belarusian nation and the inviolability of Belarusian statehood.
