On holding events for the National Unity Day for the notaries of the Gomel region at the State Archives of the Gomel Region

On September 13, 2024, on the eve of the national holiday of National Unity Day, the State Archives of the Gomel Region welcomed representatives of the Gomel Regional Notary Chamber.

The guests were met by the director of the archive Andrei Sushchevich. In his welcoming speech, he congratulated those gathered on the upcoming national holiday, noting that September 17 is a significant holiday for every citizen of our country, which symbolizes the unification of the people, the unity of all Belarusians, regardless of their origin, religion and social status.

The guests were presented with a documentary exhibition «United Belarus – Historical Justice» dedicated to the events of September 17, 1939, which is exhibited in the reading room of the archive.

In his lecture, Andrei Nikolaevich told the audience about the importance of understanding the essence of the historical process that preceded the September events of 1939, including a detailed discussion of the Riga Treaty of March 18, 1921, when the Belarusian nation and its ethnic territory were divided into three parts. September 17 is the anniversary of the Red Army’s liberation campaign in Western Belarus in 1939, as a result of which the Belarusian people, divided against their will, were reunited under the terms of the Riga Peace Treaty.

The restored unity helped Belarus survive during the Great Patriotic War and take an honorable place in the international community, becoming one of the co-founders of the United Nations.

In conclusion of the lecture, Andrei Nikolaevich reminded the guests that the cohesion of the Belarusian people, the ability to live as a friendly big family, mutual understanding are the most important components that ensure the harmony, development and prosperity of our Motherland. During the event, the film «Reunification» prepared by the institution «Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents» for the events dedicated to the Day of National Unity was shown to those present.

A guided tour of the archive and archive storage was also conducted for the guests, where leading archivist Marina Vladimirovna Bortnovskaya spoke about the system of measures to create conditions for the permanent storage and accounting of archival documents.
