On participation in the scientific and practical conference «Belarus during the Great Patriotic War: history and modernity (to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus)»

On June 25–26, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus hosted an international scientific and practical conference «Belarus during the Great Patriotic War: history and modernity (to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus)», dedicated to the anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

The welcoming speech of the First Deputy Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Belarus M.V. Ryzhenkov spoke about the importance of preserving historical truth and historical memory, as well as the role of the scientific community in this process.

The director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, O.L. Voinov, spoke at the plenary session. In his report, he spoke about the role of the republic’s archival institutions in the matter of preserving the historical memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War.

Oleg Leonidovich spoke about publishing projects in the archival industry, including the new series «Partisan Archive». Much attention was paid to working with young people in the report. Only within the framework of the nationwide campaign «Archives for School», about 2 thousand events were held, in which more than 35 thousand schoolchildren took part.

Another area of work of archival institutions in the matter of perpetuating historical memory is the creation of documentaries based on newsreels. Nine such projects have already been prepared. Dozens of films about significant events of the Great Patriotic War have also been created.

Oleg Leonidovich also noted the close interaction of archivists from Russia and Belarus in various areas of work.

The conference was attended by employees of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus S.V. Kulinok, U.A. Kolobaeva, V.G. Mazets and V.P. Garmatny.
