Employees of the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» laid flowers at the memorial sign «To the valiant soldiers of the Belarusian front who liberated the city of Gomel from the Nazi invaders on November 26, 1943»
On June 21, 2024, on the eve of the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people, the staff of the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive) went to the memorial sign «To the valiant soldiers of the Belarusian front, who liberated the city of Gomel from the Germans on November 26, 1943». -fascist invaders» to pay tribute to all those who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).
«We remember the heroes who gave their lives for the peaceful sky above their heads, for the independence of their native country. The tragedy of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) affected every Belarusian family, and the country lost every third resident», noted GAGom director Andrei Nikolaevich Sushchevich.
Also in his speech, he spoke about the camps that operated on the territory of Gomel and the Gomel region, dwelling in detail on the complex of German concentration camps – Ozarichi, located in March 1944 in the Domanovichi district of the Polesie region (now Kalinkovichi district of the Gomel region), as well as Gomel the central transit camp – Dulag 121, which existed during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) from September 1941 to October 1943.
Those gathered observed a minute of silence in memory of the fallen heroes, after which they laid flowers at the memorial sign.
