On the holding by the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» of a sports event dedicated to the International Day of Archives

Traditionally, June 9 is celebrated as International Archive Day.

The date of the holiday was not chosen by chance – it was on this day in 1948 that the ICA (International Council of Archives – a professional organization of the world archival community that promotes the preservation, development and use of the world’s archival heritage) was founded by the decision of UNESCO and under its auspices. The date of formation of this organization was determined as the International Day of Archives, which took place in 2008, which simultaneously became the 60th anniversary of the founding of the ISA.

Archives Day is not only a professional holiday for all workers in this industry, but also a memorable date established to attract the attention of the general public and decision makers to the achievements and problems of archival affairs. Traditionally, various festive and educational events are timed to coincide with this Day in different countries in order to promote the role and importance of archives, as well as the profession of archivist-custodians, when one would like to celebrate the responsible work of people in this important profession.

The institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» held a Week dedicated to the celebration of International Archive Day. Among the main events planned and carried out in the institution, on June 7, at the recreation center «Captains Bay», with the support of the Gomel regional organization of the Belarusian Trade Union of Workers of State and Other Institutions under the chairmanship of Alexander Vasilyevich Mataras, the employees of the institution organized an event that included: sports competitions, competitions for knowledge of special and memorable dates related to knowledge of archival science and record keeping, as well as history, intellectual games, etc.

The participants actively interacted with each other, which is a positive factor for the formation of a cohesive, friendly team and the key to successful work.
