On visiting the monuments of the Great Patriotic War and laying flowers by employees of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Mogilev Region»

On the eve of May 9, employees of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Mogilev Region» laid flowers at the monument to Hero of the Soviet Union, Major General Ivan Sidorovich Lazarenko in Mogilev. In the very center of the city is his grave, where he was reburied after the liberation of Mogilev on June 28, 1944. Archive employees came to honor the memory of the warrior who gave his life in the battles for the liberation of our city.

Even during the First World War, Ivan Sidorovich Lazarenko became a full Knight of St. George. He was awarded 4 St. George’s crosses and 4 medals. His name is carved on a memorial plate among the names of other full Knights of St. George in the St. George Hall of the Moscow Kremlin. On June 25, commanding a division, he died during the liberation of Mogilev. On July 21, 1944, he was posthumously awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union.
