Conducting a lesson for 10th grade students as part of the «Archives for School» campaign at the institution «State Archives of the Grodno Region»

On March 27, 2024, as part of the «Archives to School» campaign, the institution «State Archives of the Grodno Region» held a lesson on the topic «The Nazi occupation regime in the city» for students of the 10th grade of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.37 of Grodno» Grodno».

Archive staff told schoolchildren about the composition of documents and the main directions of the institution’s work; showed the children unique documentary materials of the German occupation authorities: cards of prisoners of war who were in German camps, work certificates of citizens sent to work in Germany, certificates of ghetto prisoners, workers’ profiles, notices of recruitment. Students also became acquainted with documents of partisan and underground brigades operating in the Grodno region during the years of Nazi occupation.

Also, the students were presented with exhibitions of documents on display in the reading room of the archive dedicated to the events and participants of the Great Patriotic War: «We brought this day closer as best we could..»., «There was a people’s war. Partisans and underground fighters of the Grodno region», «Not subject to oblivion».

The lesson ended with a sightseeing tour of the archives, during which schoolchildren were told about the conditions and features of document storage.
