Ozarichi. Pain and memory of the entire Belarusian people (to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the death camp in Ozarichi)
Today, March 19, 2024, a solemn event was held dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the liberation of prisoners of the Ozarichi fascist concentration death camp complex in the Gomel region.
The event was attended by the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus A.Shved, Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee I.Krupko, Assistant to the President – Inspector for the Gomel Region Y.Gorlov, Minister of Internal Affairs I.Kubrakov, Bishop of Turov and Mozyr Leonid, witnesses of those terrible events, former minors prisoners of the Ozarich camp, as well as representatives of ministries, departments, and public organizations.
From the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, the solemn meeting-requiem was attended by Deputy Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management A.Tsvetkov, Director of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus A.Demyanuk, Head of the Department for Coordination of Legal, Control and Archival Work of the Main Department of Justice of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee N.Sokolova.
The Chairman of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee began his speech with the words of the President of the Republic of Belarus A. Lukashenko: «The memory of those who fell in the struggle for the freedom and independence of the Motherland, for the liberation of the planet from the brown plague, the memory of the victims of Nazism is sacred for our people. Caring for it has become part of the national idea».
For the fascist monsters, the death camp prisoners were a human shield against the advancing Red Army. It was in Ozarichi, for the first time on the territory of Belarus, that bacteriological weapons were used against civilians.
Today we are witnessing a fight against our historical memory that is unprecedented in its scale and cynicism: attempts to devalue the feat of Soviet soldiers and Belarusian partisans, their contribution to the victory over fascism.
Flowers were laid at the memorial complex to the prisoners of the Ozarich death camp and the monument to military doctors who saved civilians infected with typhus by the Nazis.
