Book and documentary exhibition «Basic Law of the State» for the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus
On March 15, 2024, the National Archives, together with the National Library of Belarus, prepared the exhibition «The Fundamental Law of the State», dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, adopted on March 15, 1994. It is the first in the history of a sovereign republic and the fifth Constitution of Belarus, which was in force after October Revolution 1917
Of great importance is the updated version of the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, adopted at the republican referendum on February 27, 2022. It enshrines such universal values as man, his rights and freedoms, sovereignty, democracy, the rule of law, social justice, equality of all before the law. The duty of citizens of the Republic of Belarus to preserve the historical memory of the heroic past of the Belarusian people, cultural and spiritual heritage is spelled out.
The book and documentary exhibition includes about 60 books and documents reflecting the chronology of the preparation and adoption of the Constitution of our state, amendments and additions to it in connection with political, socio-economic and cultural changes.
Among the presented archival documents are copies of the draft Constitution of the Republic of Belarus from 1993 and 1994, copies of the resolution of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Belarus on the draft Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, protocols of the Central Commission of the Republic of Belarus for elections and holding republican referendums and other documents.
The current Constitution of the Republic of Belarus is the foundation that provides guidelines for the further development of Belarusian society and the state. We invite everyone to familiarize themselves with the exhibition in order to understand the essence and significance of the Basic Law of our state, actively fulfill civic duties and respect the laws of their country.
