Visit to the National Historical Archive of Belarus by participants of the «Jewish Environment» project and employees of the Museum of History and Culture of Belarus of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities
On March 6, 2024, the National Historical Archive of Belarus was visited by participants of the «Jewish Environment» project and employees of the Museum of History and Culture of Belarus of the Union of Belarusian Jewish Public Associations and Communities.
During the visit, the guests got acquainted with the history and funds of the archive, as well as the specifics of its activities and the main areas of work. Leading researcher at the Department for the Use of Documents and Information, Vladimir Denisov, gave the guests a tour of the archives, where he introduced them to a number of unique documents, as well as samples of sources on Jewish genealogy stored in the archive.
Employees of the department of research and publication activities Aksana Zenko and Evgeniy Glinsky demonstrated several dozen original documents from the late 16th to early 20th centuries. on the history of Jewish communities and the Jewish religious community in the Belarusian lands, which have been identified in recent years.
Archive workers paid special attention to the fact that for centuries Belarus remained a country where representatives of different nations and different faiths lived peacefully, and they all had opportunities for free development and creative work.
The guests showed great interest in the documentary heritage of the peoples of Belarus and asked numerous questions.
