On February 19, 2024, as part of the «Archives to School» campaign, the institution «State Archive of the Gomel Region» held a lesson for students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75» on the topic: «Trial of bondage. The tragedy of Soviet citizens forcibly taken to Germany during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)»
On February 19, 2024, as part of the «Archives to School» campaign, the institution «State Archives of the Gomel Region» (hereinafter referred to as the State Archive) conducted a lesson for students of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.75» on the topic: «Test of bondage. The tragedy of Soviet citizens forcibly taken to Germany during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)».
The purpose of the event is to study history, for students to understand their social identity as a citizen of their country, to cultivate a sense of patriotism and respect for the historical heritage.
During the event, Senior Researcher of the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents by the State Agencies Drozdova A.M. taught a lesson «The Test of Captivity. The tragedy of Soviet citizens forcibly taken to Germany during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)». During the conversation with schoolchildren, they talked about the events of the Great Patriotic War, the policy of Nazi Germany towards eastern workers (Ostarbeiters) citizens of the USSR, taken to forced labor in favor of the Third Reich, preserving the historical memory of cruel treatment and death of the population during the Great Patriotic War .
Also, students had a unique opportunity to get acquainted with the exhibition «The Fates of Belarusian Citizens Captured into German Slavery. Surviving is a feat». Each archival document in the exhibition contains a brief annotation, which allows you to complement the direct perception of the exhibits. The students were presented with the most interesting documents stored in the regional archive.
The lesson was accompanied by a demonstration of archival documents at an exhibition on the above topic, and aroused keen interest in the history of our Motherland among schoolchildren.
