The State Archive of the Vitebsk Region, as part of the “party complex,” contains documents telling about the processes that took place in the western regions of the BSSR in the pre-war years.

On September 17, Belarus celebrates National Unity Day – a public holiday established by Decree of the President of the Republic of Belarus dated June 7, 2021 No. 206.

On this day, the Red Army crossed the Soviet-Polish border to take under its protection the Belarusian and Ukrainian population, which, as a result of the Treaty of Riga (1921), seemed to be part of the Polish state. The artificial division of Belarusians lasted almost 20 years.

On October 28–30, 1939, the People’s Assembly of Western Belarus was held in Bialystok, which unanimously adopted the Declaration on the entry of Western Belarus into the BSSR.

In the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, as part of the “party complex”, documents are stored that tell about the processes that took place in the western regions of the BSSR after the unification.
