On September 11, 2023, within the walls of the institution“State Archives of the Gomel Region”(hereinafter referred to as the State Archive) within the framework of the ongoing “Archives to School” campaign and in accordance with the action plan for the cooperation agreement, classes of the archival circle “Search Engines” started – researchers.” The participants of the circle were 6th grade students from Secondary School No. 75 in Gomel.

The purpose of the event is to study history, for students to understand their social identity as citizens of their country, to develop a sense of patriotism and respect for the historical heritage.

During the meeting, Senior Researcher of the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents by the State Agencies Drozdova A.M. gave a lecture “Perpetuating the memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945) in the Gomel region.” During the conversation with schoolchildren, they talked about the events of the Great Patriotic War, preserving the memory of the exploits of the heroes who took part in the defense and liberation of Gomel and the region.

In addition, students had a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with archival documents about the perpetuation of historical places associated with the period of the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945): decisions on the construction and reconstruction of monuments in the Gomel region, lists and diagrams of burial places of soldiers who died in the years of the Great Patriotic War, etc. Each historical document in the exhibition contains a brief annotation, which allows you to supplement the direct perception of the exhibits, which is especially important when independently examining the exhibition by schoolchildren.

At the end of the event, an excursion was held for schoolchildren, where the children were introduced to state symbols and senior officials of the Republic of Belarus, as well as the history of the creation of a state institution, its main areas of activity, and the composition of stored documents.
