On the meeting of archivists of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region» with students of grades 8-10 of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.59 of Gomel»

On the eve of the Day of National Remembrance of the Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people on June 21, 2023, for students of grades 8-10 of the State Educational Institution «Secondary School No.59 of the city of Gomel», the event «Echoes of War» was held on the basis of the institution «State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region» in memory of those who gave their lives defending their Motherland.

The children were presented with the memoirs of veterans of the Great Patriotic War who participated in the defense of Gomel in 1941, the personal files of the Heroes of the Soviet Union, as well as the personal files of the members of the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment from the funds of the state archive.

With great interest and attention, the guys got acquainted with the personal files of the partisan commanders Tikhon Pimenovich Bumazhkov, Fyodor Illarionovich Pavlovsky, Kozhar Ilya Pavlovich, the underground fighter Alexander Lavrentievich Isachenko.

The students were shown fragments of military newsreels about the occupation of the city of Gomel in 1941 and the liberation of the Gomel region in 1943.

All participants of the event honored the memory of the dead with a minute of silence. Then they got acquainted with the exhibitions of archival documents and photographs «Heroes of the Gomel Land» and «1418 days of war».

In conclusion, the children were given a tour of the archives, during which the children got acquainted with the main areas of work of the archive.
