On June 19, 2023, a number of events were held at the State Archive of the Gomel Region to coincide with the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people
On June 19, 2023, a number of events dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of the victims of the Great Patriotic War and the genocide of the Belarusian people were held at the State Archive of the Gomel Region (hereinafter referred to as the GAG) institution.
The invited guests to the regional archive on this day were the active members of the Gomel city branch of the NGO “League of Communist Youth”, students of grades 9-11 of secondary schools in Gomel.
As part of this event, Senior Researcher of the Department of Information, Publication and Use of Documents by the GAG A.M. Drozdova gave a lecture on the topic: “1941-1945. Pages of History”, within the framework of which she told the children about the Victory over the enemy in the Great Patriotic War, which was achieved at the cost of great sacrifices and irreparable losses of the Belarusian people.
In addition, on this day, the exhibition “Perpetuating the memory of those who died during the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945)” was launched within the walls of the institution. Memory is sacred!” prepared on the basis of archival documents. The invited guests attended the opening of the exhibition, which took place in the reading room of the regional archive.
The exhibition featured more than 35 archival documents from the funds of the GAG: decisions on the construction and reconstruction of monuments in the city of Gomel and the region, on the transfer of burial places and the perpetuation of historical sites associated with the period of the Great Patriotic War. The children were especially interested in the schemes of burial places and lists of the dead in the Gomel region.
Also, the children had a sightseeing tour of the archives and archives. A tour of the archives was conducted by the head of the department for accounting and ensuring the safety of documents Zhineva I.V. Within the framework of which she acquainted with the main areas of work of the archive, spoke about the importance of observing the temperature and humidity conditions when storing documents.
Schoolchildren visited the laboratory, watched the process of restoring documents, got acquainted with the materials used in the restoration of documents, and took part in a master class on file filing.
In addition, the children received advice on archives and office work, the scientific and reference apparatus of the archive, the rules for working with documents in the reading room, as well as on obtaining archival information of a biographical and genealogical nature.
