On the organization of practice on the basis of the institution «Zonal State Archive in Mozyr»
In the period from May 29 to June 9, 2023, an archival practice was organized on the basis of the Zonal State Archives in Mozyr with 2nd year students of the 2nd group of the Faculty of Philology, studying full-time (full-time) higher education in the specialty «History and social science disciplines, EE Mozyr State Pedagogical University named after I.P.Shamyakin.
Work with a group of students in the amount of 23 people was carried out in accordance with the internship schedule proposed by the university.
The practice was held under the guidance of the head of the Department of Information and the Use of Documents of the Archive – Domashkevich E.V., and the control of the Associate Professor of the Department of History and Social Sciences – Barsuk E.E.
Students learned how to work with archival documents, the scientific reference apparatus of the archive: inventories and a systematic catalogue, the selection and systematization of documents on certain topics, identifying the most important events in the history of the region, independently filling out order forms, and more. others
During the internship, lectures were held with students: «History of the organization of archiving in Belarus and in the city of Mozyr», «Peculiarities of the work of the zonal state archive, the main directions of its activity», «Organization of work with users» and thematic lessons: «Without a statute of limitations …» (About the mass extermination of the Jewish population of Mozyr during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945), «The land scorched by war …» (About the destruction (burning) of the settlements of the Polesie region during the Great Patriotic War of 1941 -1945), «Not subject to oblivion…» (about the crimes committed by the Nazi invaders and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 on the territory of the Polesie region).
The guys visited the archive storages, where they were given excursions on the topics: «The State Archival Fund is the National Treasure of the People», «Conditions for storing documents, their search and use for practical purposes», «Methods for converting documents into electronic format».
The sightseers were also presented with stationary exhibitions of archival documents: «A yellowed leaf is folded like a triangle …» (letters from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945) and «They brought Victory closer» (memoirs of participants in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945). Students worked with archive documents and newspaper files stored in the archive.
Future teachers chose the topics of research themselves. An individual approach was applied to each student in the selection of documents. The topics of their research were diverse: «Restoration of the national economy in the Mozyr region in the first post-war years (1944-1950gg)», «Development of industry, education, healthcare in the city of Mozyr and the Mozyr region in the 20th century», «Investigation of the atrocities committed by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945. on the territory of the former Polessye region», «Letters from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War (1943-1944)», and many others.
Many of the children wished to work with the household books of the settlements they were interested in and to find their relatives. Practical exercises were also held on conducting an examination of the value of documents and their systematization, searching for information at the request of organizations and citizens.
As a result of the practice, working diaries and scientific theses, written on the basis of archival documents, were submitted by students for verification and evaluation to the university teacher.
