On the visit of the NIA of Belarus by representatives of the teaching staff of the Belarusian State Medical University and forensic psychiatrists of the main department of the central office of the State Forensic Examination Committee of the Republic of Belarus

On May 12, 2023, as part of the events of the Year of Peace and Creation proclaimed in the Republic of Belarus, the National Historical Archive of Belarus was visited by representatives of the teaching staff of the Educational Institution «Belarusian State Medical University» and forensic psychiatrists of the main department of the central office of the State Forensic Examination Committee of the Republic of Belarus.

At the beginning of the visit, Irina Kovganova, deputy director of the archive, spoke with a welcoming speech about the sources on the history of medicine in the funds of the NIA of Belarus. Then Vladimir Denisov, Leading Researcher of the Department for the Use of Documents and Information, conducted a tour of the archives, during which he described the structure of the archive, demonstrated a number of unique documents on the history of Belarus in the 14th-16th centuries. After that, V. Denisov and Deputy Head of the Department of Research and Publications Yevgeny Glinsky acquainted the guests with documents reflecting the development of medical affairs in Belarus in the 19th – early 20th centuries: the creation and functioning of medical institutions (city, rural hospitals), construction infectious diseases hospital in Minsk, organization of anti-epidemic measures. Attention was drawn to materials revealing the circumstances of the life and professional activities of prominent doctors who worked on the territory of Belarus or originated from Belarusian lands – Danila Spasovich, Karl Hubental, Heinrich Kulakovsky, Ivan Pasternatsky, Wilhelm Hindenburg, Valentin Voyno-Yasenetsky (Archbishop Luka), Pavel Petrov, Febus Kaplan, Gavriil Lipmanov, Sergey Urvantsov.

Representatives of the teaching staff of the Belarusian State Medical University showed great interest in various sources on the history of medicine in Belarus, which are stored in the archive.
