Participation of the director of the institution “State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region” in the opening of the photo-documentary exhibition “Conveyor of death. Soviet prisoner of war camps in occupied Gomel

On the eve of Victory Day, on May 7, 2023, the director of the State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region Natalia Yuryevna Abramova took part in the opening of the photo-documentary exhibition “Conveyor of Death . Camps of Soviet prisoners of war in the occupied Gomel , which took place in the gallery of the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble.

The facts about the atrocities of the Nazis in the occupied Gomel were devoted to two previous projects. This is “Farewell people…!”, an exhibition dedicated to the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. The second project – “We are not slaves!”, created on the basis of archival documentary evidence of citizens who were driven into Germany, Austria, Poland, Italy, France during the Great Patriotic War for slave labor.

Exhibition Conveyor of Death. Soviet prisoner of war camps in occupied Gomel” is dedicated to the most terrible and inhumane events in the history of occupied Gomel – the mass extermination of people in transit camps for prisoners of war, which were located in the very center of the city and operated from September 1941 to October 1943.
Organizers of the exhibition: the Prosecutor’s Office of the Gomel Region, the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Gomel, the State Archive of the Gomel Region, the Gomel Palace and Park Ensemble, the Gomel Regional Museum of Military Glory.

Most of the information presented is shown and published for the first time. The project was filled with photographs from the private collection of the Gomel historian Yuri Pankov, taken by the occupiers. In addition to the photographs, unique documents from the State Archives of the Gomel Region, the State Security Committee and materials of the criminal case on the fact of the genocide of the Belarusian population are presented.
