On holding an exhibition at a solemn event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus

On April 14, 2023, a solemn event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus was held at the Palace of the Republic. Among the guests were the Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Roman Golovchenko, heads of ministries and departments, representatives of the judiciary of Belarus, delegations of foreign states.

For guests in the lobby of the Palace of the Republic, the archives and libraries of Belarus presented several thematic exhibitions of documents and materials on the history of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Belarus, the development and activities of judicial institutions on the territory of Belarus in different historical eras. For the mentioned event, the National Historical Archive of Belarus prepared the exhibition «Judicial Institutions on the Belarusian Lands in the 16th – Early 20th Centuries», dedicated to the history of judicial institutions on the Belarusian lands during their stay as part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Commonwealth (city, zemstvo, magistrate courts; the backyard assessor court of the GDL, the commissar court; the main and treasure tribunals of the GDL) and the Russian Empire (the chambers of the criminal and civil court and the main courts; the combined chambers of the criminal and civil court; district courts).

Visitors to the stand of the NIA of Belarus, participants of the solemn event showed great interest in the functioning of judicial institutions in the Belarusian lands in the period from the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century. Maxim Makarov, Deputy Director of the Archives, and Evgeny Glinsky, Deputy Head of the Research and Publication Department, answered numerous questions from the guests.
