On the opening of the documentary exhibition «We Belarusians are peaceful people…» in the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus has opened a documentary exhibition «We Belarusians are peaceful people…», prepared for the Year of Peace and Creation.

«We, Belarusians, are peaceful people…» short, concise and deep in wisdom, meaning and content of the words of one of the most important symbols of our statehood – the National Anthem of the Republic of Belarus. Official visits of the President of the Republic of Belarus and government delegations of Belarus, victories of our athletes at the Olympic Games and international sports competitions, meetings of delegations and heads of foreign states visiting our country, our public holidays begin with majestic and solemn words – «We, Belarusians, are peaceful people … ». The centuries-old history of our people proves and confirms the wisdom and depth of these words. The archive fund «Central Committee of the Communist Party of Bolsheviks» contains the text of the anthem of Soviet Belarus, a transcript of the minutes of the jury meeting on the consideration of the texts of the Belarusian anthem submitted for the competition on May 5, 1944, a report on the work of the jury on the creation of the National Anthem of the BSSR.

For centuries, our shmatnatsyyanal people: Belarusians, Russians, Yasrey, Palyaks, Tatars and ancestors of other nationalities lived in the world and zgodze. Time for joy and joy, and the mountain, time for blessings of our feathers, haste and blessings, times for years of happiness and malaise, times for our native Belarus, times for bread and bread for our relatives and for our successes. None of the territories of Belarus and the hell of our people did not end the aggression, hubbub, variance and war.

The Belarusian people, who survived all the horrors and tragedy of the Great Patriotic War, and made an invaluable contribution to the Victory of the Soviet people, in the first post-war years became one of the active participants in the world movement for peace. The voice of Belarusians in support of peace and harmony between different countries, despite different socio-political systems and states, sounded authoritatively, weightily and to the whole world from the rostrum of the United Nations (UN). The documents presented at the exhibition show how in 1945 the BSSR delegation to the UN submitted a resolution to the UN General Assembly condemning the crimes of fascism not only against the Belarusian people, but also against all peoples affected by the war. And that voice was heard. All UN member states unanimously accepted and supported the proposal of our republic.

The memory of the war and the desire for peace were especially evident in the republic’s peacekeeping activities. In 1951, the BSSR signed the appeal of the World Peace Council on the conclusion of the Peace Pact. The Belarusians who survived the war, like no one else, remembered and did not want a repetition of all its horrors.

For the first time, the exhibition presents documents from the archival fund «Belarusian Peace Fund». These are the minutes of the meetings of the Belarusian Republican Committee of Peace Defenders, the transcripts of the Plenums of the Belarusian Republican Committee of Peace Defenders, the events of the world anti-war action «Wave of Peace», «Peace Week», documents on the participation of Belarusian peace advocates in the international track and field relay race «The Next Step» – Moscow – Amsterdam, speeches by well-known figures of literature and art of our country in defense of peace – People’s Artist, member of the Soviet Committee of Peace Defenders M.Savitsky, as well as P.Panchenko and M.Lynkov, who in different years headed the Belarusian Republican Committee of Peace Defenders.

The exhibition presents documents (photographs, certificates, the UN Charter) from funds of personal origin:
Yegorov Marat Fedorovich – public figure, chairman of the Belarusian Peace Fund, president of the International Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization «Chernobyl – Help», vice-president of the Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs, Honored Worker of Culture of the BSSR, participant in the Great Patriotic War;
Kiselev Kuzma Venediktovich – diplomat, statesman and party leader, chairman of the Council of People’s Commissars of the BSSR, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the BSSR, candidate of medical sciences.

A separate showcase at the exhibition presents drawings by children of archive workers on the theme: «The world through the eyes of children.»

We, archivists, remember and keep the memory of those who fought against the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War on our land, who did not bow to bullets, who, not «sparing their belly», laid their lives on the sacred altar of Victory, who defended the right to independence, freedom and peaceful creative work. The memory of partisan heroes and underground fighters is represented by the personal files of the Heroes of the Soviet Union and portraits of partisans and underground fighters of the Belarusian Headquarters of the partisan movement. The organized exhibition is a low bow and gratitude of descendants to all those who fought in 1941-1944. for the current, peaceful and prosperous Republic of Belarus.

Announced by the President of the Republic of Belarus A.G.Lukashenka 2023 is the Year of Peace and Creation ̶ the continuation of the best traditions, wisdom and achievements of our centuries-old history and our people. Only peace makes it possible to achieve prosperity and well-being for our state and all countries without exception. The example of our country, which has proclaimed and calls for peace, must be heard not only by our neighbors, but by the entire civilized society.

The exhibition can be viewed at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus until March 15.
