On the meeting of the archivists of the institution “State archive of public associations of the Gomel region” with students of the 11th grade of the state educational institution “Gymnasium No. 10 of the city of Gomel”

On October 27, 2022, as part of the Year of Historical Memory, a meeting of archivists with grade 11 students of the state educational institution “Gymnasium No. 10 of Gomel” was held on the basis of the institution “State Archive of Public Associations of the Gomel Region”.

The event was opened by the Director of the State Archives Natalia Yurievna Abramova, who told the children about the genocide of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War. Natalya Yuryevna also presented a number of archival documents revealing the essence, nature and consequences of the occupation regime, as well as documents testifying to the damage caused by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War and the post-war period. Through reading and familiarization with the documents, the children got the opportunity to feel the fullness of the tragedy of the Belarusian people during the Great Patriotic War.

The children also got acquainted with the personal files of the members of the Gomel People’s Militia Regiment, learned in detail about the courage and fortitude in the first days of the defense of the city of Gomel.

In addition, within the framework of the meeting, archivists organized a screening of a documentary film about the Ozarichi death camp.

To broaden their horizons and increase students’ interest in the history of the Great Patriotic War, archivists held a historical and educational quiz “Live and prosper forever, Belarus!”, in which schoolchildren took part with pleasure. As a result of the quiz, the most active students were awarded commemorative diplomas.

Sidorko A.I., head of the Department of Accounting and Preservation of Documents, conducted a tour of the archives for students, during which the children got acquainted with the main areas of work of the archive and were able to see the original documents.
