The Belarusian Archives of Film and Photo Documents took part in the events dedicated to the celebration of the 955th anniversary of Minsk
On September 10, 2022, the Festival of Science was held in Minsk at the Central Botanical Garden with the support of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus as part of the celebration of the 955th anniversary of the city of Minsk. This is the largest popular science event in Belarus, first held in 2018 to give everyone the chance to meet a scientist and get an answer to a question in person. Over the years it has grown into a large-scale event that introduces Minsk residents and visitors to the capital to the latest developments in science and helps make sense of new knowledge from the world of science and technology. The organizers of the festival take care that the festival will be full of bright formats and deep meanings, so that the program will have a sufficient number of interesting activities for every age and every kind of mind.
The Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings in cooperation with the Belarusian Agricultural Library named after I. S. Lupinovich have prepared an exposition consisting of a photo exhibition “The Past and the Present of Belarus’ Regional Towns”, photo albums of collectors I. Tagrin, V. Kaleda and a participant of the Battle for Berlin A. Bogomolov and an exhibition of photo and video equipment of the second half of the 20th century. The photo exhibition “The Past and the Present of Belarus’ Regional Cities” was displayed on 6 floor-standing exhibition stands, each containing 12 photo documents, which depict significant places and buildings of modern regional cities of Belarus from the early 20th century to the present day. Looking at them, you can see how the image of Brest, Vitebsk, Gomel, Grodno, Minsk and Mogilev has changed over the century.
Of particular interest at the Festival of Science was a display of photo and video equipment from the second half of the twentieth century – photo and movie cameras, slides, photo and film, photo albums.
