Major General Iosif Leontyevich Leonovich was born on August 18
Iosif Leontyevich Leonovich was born on August 18, 1896 in the village of Kublichi (now Ushachi District, Vitebsk Region). In 1916 he graduated from the Vilna Military School and machine-gun courses at the Oranienbaum Officer School. In 1928 he completed his studies at the Frunze Military Academy in St. Petersburg. In 1939 he taught at the Military Academy of the General Staff.
He is participant of World War I and the Civil War. During the Great Patriotic War – Head of Operations of the Staff of the 18th Army, Southern Front, from October 1941 – Chief of Staff of the 18th Army. In 1952 he retired.
Died on January 27, 1975 in Moscow.
