An exhibition with behind-the-scenes photographs of the film «Come and See»
In the framework of the national action «Film Lessons of History», the film «Come and See» was shown in all the regions of Belarus (1985, director Alem Klimov, operator Alexei Rodionov, co-produced by the film studios «Belarusfilm» and «Mosfilm»), and creative meetings were held.
The demonstration of the film «Come and See» and a creative meeting with the film’s sound director Viktor Mors took place in the cinema theatre «Belarus» in Minsk. The event was dedicated to the Day of National Remembrance of Victims of the Great Patriotic War and the Year of Historical Memory.
The cinema house presented an exhibition with unique behind-the-scenes photographs taken during the filming and provided by the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings (BGAKFFD), the photo zone of the film studio and original costumes of the main characters.
The main character of the film is a Belarusian boy who witnesses the horrors of the Nazi punitive action, turning from a cheerful teenager into a gray-haired old man within two days. The film was highly acclaimed by the audience already during its premiere in 1985 at the Moscow International Film Festival. The film received the Golden Prize and the FIPRESSI Award. In the same year, the film was nominated for an Oscar in the Best Foreign Language Film category.
The film was repeatedly noted abroad: according to Time Out magazine it occupies the sixth line on the list of 50 best war films of all times, being the best film about the Second World War. In 2008, the British magazine Empire included the film in the list of the «500 Greatest Films of All Time». In a 2012 poll among directors by British magazine Sight&Sound, the film was ranked 30th on the list of the greatest films of all time.
The film has now been restored by the Mosfilm Cinema Concern. In 2017, it won the grand prize at the 74th Venice Film Festival in the Venetian Classic category.
