The Local State Archives in Orsha presents a virtual photo exhibition dedicated to the International Children’s Day
The Local State Archives in Orsha presents a virtual photo exhibition “Our children are the most important thing in the world” timed to the International Children’s Day.
The exhibition shows pictures from the album of photos of Orsha Children’s Home No. 12 from 1944-1962, held in the collection of the Education Department of Orsha District Executive Committee, Orsha, Vitebsk Region. F.681. Op.1. Ll. 1-28.
The Orsha Children’s Home was organized in August 1944, after Orsha’s liberation from the Nazi invaders. The orphanage admitted children of the citizens, who died during the Great Patriotic War. The residents of Orsha and adjacent villages collected dishes and furniture to organise the children’s home. The children first lived in very difficult conditions, lacking food, clothing, footwear. All the older children and their teachers worked together to prepare firewood to heat the orphanage buildings. During the warm season they organized hiking trips and excursions.
