On the eve of the 36th anniversary of the Chernobyl catastrophe, on 22 April 2022, the State Archives of Gomel Region launched an exhibition called “26 April 1986. Chernobyl – a National Ecological Disaster” prepared by the archive staff on the basis of archival documents and photographs. The exhibition was visited on this day by the 2nd-3rd year students of the F.Skaryna State University.
The documentary materials on display reflect the activities of the Belarusian state bodies aimed at overcoming the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. First of all, these are the actions of social protection of the population from the radiation threat: resettlement of people from the 30-km zone, medical assistance to the victims, construction of houses for the resettled people, etc.
The exhibition has been prepared to present archival documents and photographs that provide a detailed picture of the events of those already distant days, which left a deep impression on the minds of millions of people.
