History of a participant in the Great Patriotic War, an order bearer, a veteran of the archival service of the Gomel region Georgy Oniskovets

Georgy Vasilevich ONISKOVETS was born on 14 July 1921 in the village of Kozeluzhye, Khoiniki district, Polesye region of the Belarusian SSR. After finishing school in 1939, he entered a one-year course at the Pedagogical Institute in Gomel. He started his career in 1940 as a teacher of Krasnaya Buda School, Terekhov district, Gomel region. Here he was caught up by the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

Georgy Oniskovets participated in the battles on the North Caucasian front, where on January 12, 1943 was wounded in the left hand during an assault of height 509.3. He was on the 2nd and 3rd Belorussian fronts, took part in the preparation, storming and liberation of Warsaw. After the end of the Great Patriotic War, Georgy Oniskovets got in the 21st Motorized Topographic Stettin Red Banner Detachment, which in 1945-1946 carried out the governmental task to clarify and change the map of Poland. In October 1946 he was demobilized.

From September 1947 to June 1949, he studied at the V.P. Chkalov State Pedagogical Institute in Gomel. From August 1949 to August 1950 worked as a teacher at Priborskaya School of the Gomel district and at the same time studied at the pedagogical college, from which he graduated in 1953. From August 1950 to August 1956 worked as a teacher at Railway School No. 15, from August to October 1956 at Building School No. 4 in Gomel. From October 1956 to March 1965 worked as a senior inspector of the archive department of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee, from March 1965 to August 1984 – head of this department, from December 1984 to January 1985 – head of the administrative-economic department of the Gomel Region Statistical Administration. From February 1985 to March 1992 – head of the archival repository of the State Archives of Gomel Region.

Georgy Oniskovets was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the Regional Executive Committee (05.03.1960); the Certificate of Honour of the Main Archives of the USSR and the Central Committee of Trade Union of Workers of State Organizations (19.10.1967); the Certificate of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR (07.06.1978); the Certificate of Honour of the Regional Committee of the Communist Party of Belarus and Regional Executive Committee (14.07.1981); the Order of Glory of 3 degree (13.03.1968); medals “For the Defense of the Caucasus” (07.08.1945), “For the Liberation of Warsaw (24.03.1946), “For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” (07.10.1945); “For valorous work in commemoration of the100th anniversary of V. I. Lenin” and others.
