On 22 March 2022, as part of the Year of Historical Memory, the Gomel State College of Arts named after N. F. Sokolovsky held a requiem lesson “What the bells of Khatyn ring about?” for 1st and 4th grade students.

The event was dedicated to a terrible page in the history of our country – the burning of the Belarusian village of Khatyn by the Nazi invaders during the Great Patriotic War. The director of the state archives, Natalya Abramova, noted the importance of preserving the memory of the history of the Great Patriotic War, and gave examples of the burned villages of the Gomel region: Khvoinya (Kopotkevichi district, Polesye region) – 1412 killed in March 1942; Kobyleva (Vasilevichi district) – 1118 killed in May 1943; Ola (Parichi district, Polesye region) – 1758 killed in January 1944, etc.

The Deputy Prosecutor of Gomel District Alexander Shinkarev reminded that on 7 April 2021 the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Belarus initiated a criminal case concerning the genocide of the Belarusian population during the Great Patriotic War and the postwar period. As part of this event, Alexander Shinkarev showed a presentation “Relevant issues of protection of personal and civic rights in connection with the investigation of the genocide of the population of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic during the Great Patriotic War”.

The sector head Natalia Bachura showed the students an excerpt from the documentary film “Khatyn: a classified tragedy”.
