The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus hosted a meeting with students of the History Faculty of the Belarusian State University
On 4 March, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus hosted a meeting with students of the History Faculty of the Belarusian State University.
During the meeting, Director of the Archives Andrey Demyanyuk spoke about the history of the National Archives, the composition and storage of documents, the work in the field of publishing and exhibition activities.
The future historians-archivists visited the photo-documentary exhibition “Echo of the Afghan War” timed to the Year of Historical Memory, the Day of Remembrance of Internationalist Soldiers, the Day of Fatherland Defenders and the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus. The head of the department of personal collections I. V. Dorogush spoke about the history of the Afghan war, the documents presented at the exhibition, the activities of the state and party bodies of the BSSR and the Republic of Belarus, the Belarusian public organizations and associations in the field of social, labour and medical rehabilitation of the internationalist soldiers.
The students were especially interested in photos of Soviet and Afghan armed forces, the civilian population of the country, maps of Afghanistan, medals and other awards. The students also visited the archive repository, where they got acquainted with the documents from the collections of personal origin and partisan formations.
K. I. Kozak, Associate Professor of the Source Study Department at the History Faculty of Belarusian State University emphasized the importance of the archives in preservation of historical and cultural heritage, and together with the students presented the collection “The Tragedy and Courage of the Partisan Region 1941-1945: Living Evidence of Belarus” to the director of the archives A. K. Demyanyuk.
