The National Historical Archives of Belarus published an illustrated collection of documents “Minsk Men’s Gymnasium: Photographic Materials”.
The book contains 355 photographs of high school students, applicants and persons who took the exam to become public school teachers and pharmacy apprentices. Most of the photographs were taken in the studios in Minsk and other towns: Borisov, Brest, Vilnius, Vladimir, Koidanovo, Kremenchug, Lublin, Mogilev, Ponevezh, St. Petersburg, Slonim, Kharkov, and Yuryev. The faces in the photo include future famous scientists, statesmen, politicians and military figures.
The book was compiled by Sergey Ryndin, a leading researcher of the Research and Publication Department at the National Historical Archives of Belarus.
The collection opens the “Archival Photo” publishing series of the National Historical Archives of Belarus. Its main goal is to find, scientifically describe and publish the photographic documents held in the archives’ collections.
The publication has been prepared within the framework of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Belarusian Archival Service and the Year of Historical Memory.
