The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presents a documentary photo exhibition «We Withstood and Won»
On February 04, 2022, within the framework of the final board of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus and the beginning of the Year of Historical Memory, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presented a documentary photo exhibition «We Withstood and Won».
The exhibition presents documentary materials reflecting the hard and selfless work of the Belarusian people in helping the Red Army liberate Europe from the Nazi yoke. In 1945, 57 evacuation hospitals were relocated to Belarus from the rear regions of the USSR, where wounded Red Army soldiers and officers were treated and rehabilitated. The population of the republic did everything possible for the wounded to survive. Food, care and attention to the wounded, the donation of blood contributed to the fact that about 40,000 soldiers of the Red Army were again in the ranks and continued to fight until the Victory.
Teams of sappers worked selflessly to clear the territory of the republic of numerous explosives – mines, air bombs, shells, grenades and ammunition. Between 1944 and 1946, more than 9 million pieces of various explosives were removed from the Belarusian soil, saving the lives of thousands of Belarusians.
A special place in the exhibition is given to the theme of the partisan movement: residents of Belarusian towns and villages, young and old, stood up to defend the homeland – it is not by chance that Belarus is called the “Partisan Republic”.
The Belarusian people will never forget that representatives of practically all nationalities of the Soviet Union, as well as anti-fascists from a number of European countries, fought shoulder to shoulder with them against Nazism. Fighting far away from their countries, in Belarus they were bringing the Victory closer. The Belarusians, together with the representatives of all the peoples of the Soviet Union, have made a significant contribution to the global Victory over Nazism.
Thousands of Belarusians were awarded high government decorations and became known to the entire Soviet people as symbols of fortitude, courage, heroism and fearlessness. They did not bow to bullets, courageously and bravely fought to bring the Victory closer as quickly as possible. Each individually and all together they withstood and won.
