The State Archives of Gomel Region together with Secondary School No 2 of Gomel celebrated the Day of People’s Unity
On September 17, 2021, the State Archives of Gomel Region celebrated the state holiday of the Day of People’s Unity by holding a solemn event at Secondary School No. 2 in Gomel. The school museum hosted an exhibition “The Unity of the Belarusian People in the Struggle against the Nazi German Invaders”. The Archives director Andrey Sushchevich and senior research assistant Ekaterina Usova spoke to the school pupils, teachers and guests. They noted that this day became an act of historical justice for the Belarusian people divided against their will in 1921 according to the terms of the Riga Peace Treaty. The unity restored in 1939 allowed Belarus to withstand the years of the Great Patriotic War. The school pupils took an active part in the event which left in the memory of all those present an understanding of firmness and self-sufficiency of the Belarusian nation and statehood.
The Archives director A. Sushchevich, together with his congratulations, presented the school library with several copies of the collections of documents prepared by the Archives.
