On June 22, the Oval Hall of the Government House hosted a solemn ceremony of opening a memorial plaque, a requiem meeting in memory of the deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the Belarusian Soviet Socialist Republic (BSSR) of the first convocation, who died or went missing during the Great Patriotic War, and a presentation of the publication “They were the first. Deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR of the first convocation”, prepared with the participation of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.
Speakers at the event were Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus Andreichenko V. P., Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the third convocation Konoplev V. N., great-granddaughter of the deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the first convocation Fedosenko Agafia Ivanovna, Klintsova Yu. S., and Rector of the All-Saints Parish Archpriest Fedor Povny. The requiem meeting was attended by parliamentarians, representatives of government bodies and other organizations, foreign states and international structures.
The staff of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus received a commendation from the Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus for the work done on the preparation of the publication.
As part of the requiem meeting, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus presented an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and to the activities of the deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR of the first convocation, who were elected on June 28, 1938. Many of them later became famous party-state, Soviet, scientific and cultural figures of Belarus, its elite. During the war years, the deputies of the BSSR Supreme Soviet of the first convocation fought heroically at the fronts, were active participants in the Partisan movement and the underground, worked in the rear.
The exhibition features unique archive documents that reflect the situation on the eve of the war, as well as materials about the activities of the deputies of the BSSR Supreme Soviet of the first convocation:
Intelligence summary and special reports of the People’s Commissar of Internal Affairs of the BSSR L. Tsanava about the situation on the border and adjacent territory at the beginning of 1941; resolutions of the Military Council of the Western Special Military District on preparations for the construction of operational airfields in 1941, defensive structures, on the progress of supplying the Red Army, on the creation of an emergency reserve of fuel; documents of the Partisan detachments and brigades; unique military maps showing the disposition of the German troops on the eve of the attack on the Soviet Union; lists of decrees of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR adopted at meetings of the first convocation; reports of deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR to the Presidium about their work; autobiographies and questionnaires of deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR; post cards and letters of deputies from the front to the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the BSSR; notices of death; letters of relatives asking for information about the location of their husband or son who is a deputy of the BSSR Supreme Soviet. Many of the documents are on display for the first time.
The documents presented by the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus aroused great interest among the visitors of the exhibition.
