The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus became a partner of the project “Letters of Victory”

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus became a partner of the project “Letters of Victory”: digital copies of 13 documents from the archive’s holdings were provided for open access on the project’s website.

“Letters of Victory” is an interactive project dedicated to the 75th anniversary of victory in the Great Patriotic War, which aims to create a public electronic archive of war-time letters and to post it in open access on the website pismapobedy.ru.

Many specialized institutions and organizations (archives, museums, libraries, etc.), as well as citizens, whose family archives have preserved letters from the war years, actively participate in the international project. On the website anyone can fill out a special form and upload digitized letters.

Thousands of letters from soldiers and officers, home front workers, nurses and doctors, military journalists and many other participants and eyewitnesses of those events will become not only an unprecedented act of commemoration, but also an invaluable retrospective complex of sources for studies into the history of the Great Patriotic War.

The National Archives of the Republic of Belarus have revealed a significant number of such documents in their holdings. Work under this project will be continued.
