«Pan Tadeush»

Annotation

This epic poem by Adam Mitskevich gives a wide panorama of people’s life in Belarus in the early 19th century and vividly describes a daily life of the local nobility. Dunin-Martsinkevich’s translation of "Pan Tadeush" includes the first two "tales" of the poem. The book was banned and confiscated. Presently four exemplars survive, all of which are held outside Belarus.

The Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art holds a handwritten transcript by B. Epimakh-Shipila (1893), the page proofs and the second edition of the translation produced in St. Petersburg in 1907 by the publishing house "Zagliane sontsa i u nasha akontsa" .
