Eleventh General Conference of the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA), 21-23 May 2010, Odessa, Ukraine
The Eleventh General Conference of the Eurasian Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives (EURASICA) and the session of the Consultative Council of the heads of the CIS archival services took place in Odessa, Ukraine, on 21-23 May 2010.
In the events participated delegations from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine and Latvia took part as an observer.
The Belarusian side was represented by the director of the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus V.I. Adamushko, director of the Belarusian State Archives of Films, Photographs and Sound Recordings V.V. Balandin, the chief of archives and RM division at the Gomel Regional Executive Committee P.M. Lapitsky, director at the Belarusian Research Center for Electronic Records V.L. Nosevich, director at the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies A.E. Rybakov, and director at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus V.D. Selemenev.
At the session of the Consultative Council of the heads of the CIS archival services the representatives of all member countries made reports on the development of archive business in the past year. They made a decision to prepare the Regulations of the Consultative Council in accordance with the recently adopted Regulation on the governing bodies of the CIS.
The EURASICA Eleventh General Conference discussed the implementation of work of the regional branch in 2008-1012 and perspectives for 2011-2012. The Russian side informed the participants of a successful holding in Moscow of training workshops organised by the Russian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies (VNIIDAD). The VNIIDAD’ director M.V. Larin noted that the Belarusian archivists were among the most active participants at the workshops. The Conference also discussed the state of work on the database “Archival Legislation in the Countries of the Euro-Asian Region” and prospects of its location in the Web. The head of the Uzbek delegation, A.H. Abdullayev, made a proposal to organise a web forum on the issues of international archival cooperation and expressed readiness to prepare the required technical proposals.
The EURASICA next, Twelfth General Conference is expected to take part in 2011 in Belarus. This will include an international conference on the issues of cooperation between the state archival services and the non-government archives.
The EURASICA Eleventh Conference included two international scholarly conferences: “Common Archival Heritage and National Archival Holdings” and “Electronic Recordkeeping and Electronic Archives”. The latter was headed by V.I. Adamushko, director at the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Republic of Belarus. The main report was delivered by V.L. Nosevich, director at the Belarusian Research Center for Electronic Records.
