«Over the Islach River or the Medicine at Bedtime»
Annotation
This is the first edition of the work written in 1868. Modern scholars consider its genre as a long poem. The original copy of the poem written in Polish was identified by A. Maldzis at the National Library in Warsaw in 1964. The manuscript’s last page bears a note "The end of Part 1". The fate of the second part is so far unknown. The poem is written in the best traditions of Romanticism. It poeticizes the life on the old estates of the minor nobility retreating at the approach of strict capitalist relations represented in the work by the kulak Sabkovich.
