International scholarly conference Historical Heritage of Belarus: Identification, Preservation and Study, 17-18 May, Minsk

On 17-18 May 2012 Minsk held an international scholarly conference Historical Heritage of Belarus: Identification, Preservation and Study dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the State Archives Service of the Republic of Belarus, the 85th anniversary of the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the 20th anniversary of the Belarusian State University Department of Source Studies.

The events were organized by the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry, the Belarusian State University, the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian Research Institute of Records Management and Archival Studies.

Attending the conference were representatives of the Department for Archives and Records Management of Belarus, state archives, research institutions and higher educational institutions from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine and Poland.

Speakers at the plenary meeting were:
Director at the Department for Archives and Records Management of the Justice Ministry of the Republic of Belarus, V. Adamushko (“Archives in Public Service: on the 90th anniversary of the Archives Service of Belarus”);
Scholary secretary at the Russian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Science, V. Glotov (“Organization of scholarly research in the field of records and archival affairs in the Russian Federation in present conditions”);
Dean at the BSU History Faculty, head of the source studies department S. Khodin (“20 years of the BSU source studies department: traditions and innovations”);
Director at the Ukrainian Research Institute of Archival Business and Records Science, A. Garanin (“Training of high qualified professionals in records and archival science in the period of independent Ukraine 1991-2011”).
The welcome address was given by the acting director at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus N. Rudakovsky.

The conference had four sections:

Section 1. Archives, museums and libraries in the formation of historical memory;
Section 2. Source studies, historiography, methods of historical research in the world of humanitarian knowledge;
Subsection: Studies of archival sources;
Section 3. Pressing issues in archival science, archaeography, documentation science;
Section 4. An archivist and records specialist in the modern society: on the issue of professional training.
