Specialists from the Kobrin Zonal State Archive Conduct a Lesson for National Unity Day

On National Unity Day, a special lesson for high school students was held at Secondary School No.3 in Kobrin. Students in grades 10 and 11 gathered not merely to recall dry dates from textbooks, but to truly grasp the meaning of being a united people.

The meeting was profound and substantive. State archive specialists helped the students reconstruct the timeline of events surrounding September 17, 1939—a pivotal day in our country’s history. Discussions covered the reunification of Belarusian lands, the significance of this holiday today, and the path Belarus has traveled toward statehood.

Working with archival documents sparked particular interest among the students. Holding evidence of the era in one’s hands—even as copies—such as decrees, orders, and directives from that time, transforms history from something abstract into something tangible, understandable, and deeply personal.

The lesson culminated in a screening of the documentary «Independence Day: Chronicles of Belarusian Statehood». Newsreel footage allowed the students to literally «immerse» themselves in the past, see the faces of people who lived through those challenging times, and appreciate the magnitude of the changes that have taken place in our country.

For the students, this lesson was more than just a lecture; it was an opportunity to reflect on the fact that unity is not merely a word, but the foundation upon which our shared future is built.
