BGAMLI attended the tour «The German Quarter of Minsk: Past and Present»
On August 19, 2026, employees of the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art attended the tour «The German Quarter of Minsk: Past and Present». They learned: in what historical period and why did German families appear on Belarusian soil? Where was the Lutheran Church located and which prominent Germans were buried in the city’s Lutheran Cemetery? How and when was Northern Lane formed in the German Quarter and who lived there? How did the Girshi Fried brick factory emerge and where did its blue clay come from?
This knowledge allowed us to re-read the history of Minsk and better understand the cultural characteristics of our founders—writers Artur and Vitaly Zeidel-Volsky, Germans by origin, actresses Ilza Lakshtanova (née Shulmeister) of the Maxim Gorky National Academic Drama Theater, Yuliana Vitan-Dubeykovskaya, and others.
