The National Historical Archives of Belarus Participated in the Scientific and Practical Conference «Dokshitsy Region: Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Region»
On June 11–12, 2026, Olga Volkova, Leading Researcher in the Research, Publication, and Exhibition Sector and PhD in History, participated in the scientific and practical conference «Dokshitsy Region: Historical and Cultural Heritage of the Region», which was held in Dokshitsy.
The conference brought together over 50 historians, archaeologists, anthropologists, art historians, linguists, literary scholars, archivists, museum staff, and local historians from Dokshitsy, Minsk, Vitebsk, Glubokoye, Dzerzhinsk, Novopolotsk, and Polotsk. Conference participants visited the Shunevka Memorial Complex, created to perpetuate the memory of the tragedy during the Great Patriotic War. On May 22, 1943, during the punitive Operation Cottbus, the Nazis burned the village of Shunevka along with its residents.
During the conference, O.Volkova presented a paper entitled «Documents from the history of Dokshitsy during the First World War». On behalf of the National Historical Archives of Belarus, on the eve of the town’s 620th anniversary, which will be celebrated in 2027, Valentina Randarevich, Chairperson of the Dokshitsy Council of District Deputies, received a commemorative gift – a color copy of a document from the NAHB collection on the history of Dokshitsy (a Dokshitsy resident’s passport from 1913) – to be added to the museum’s collection.
