Open Day at the Central Laboratory: Historical Preservation and Career Guidance

Where are documents given a second life? The Central Laboratory has the answer! As part of International Archives Week, our institution opened its doors to young humanities students from Minsk Gymnasium No.14.

The event was aimed at promoting historical heritage and providing career guidance to students interested in the humanities.

Laboratory Director S.I.Mezga told the guests about the unique nature of the institution’s work and why it is so important to carefully preserve documents from past eras. Then, the students witnessed true magic: how, thanks to the painstaking work of restorers, microbiologists, and digitization specialists, documents damaged by time are given a new life. The students followed the entire journey of a document—from microbiological studies to restoration, binding, microfilming, and digitization of archival documents. This day became an important step in preserving historical truth and may have determined the futures of some schoolchildren who decided to dedicate themselves to archival work.
