On the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference «Archival Dialogue: The Role of Women in the Contemporary History of Belarus»

On May 21, 2026, the 5th International Scientific and Practical Conference «Archival Dialogue: The Role of Women in the Contemporary History of Belarus» was held at the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus (hereinafter NARB).

Oleg Voinov, Director of the Department of Archives and Records Management of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Belarus, addressed the conference participants with a welcoming speech. Voinov noted that the «Archival Dialogue» conference has effectively become a pan-archival event in the Republic of Belarus. Archivists from Russia and Uzbekistan are also participating in the scientific forum. Of the 70 applications submitted this year, more than 30 are from archivists.

Vladimir Danilovich, Member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Culture, and Science, Doctor of History, and Professor, addressed the conference participants with welcoming remarks. Deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, member of the Standing Commission on Human Rights, National Relations and Mass Media, Director General of the National Library of Belarus, PhD in History, Associate Professor V.F.Gigin; Head of the Department of Source Studies of the Faculty of History of the Belarusian State University (hereinafter referred to as BSU), Doctor of History, Professor S.N.Khodin; Director of the NARB A.K.Demyanyuk.

At the plenary session, video presentations were made by the Head of the Information Service of the Uzarhive Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Doctor of Philosophy in Historical Sciences A.O.Aliyev («Source Study Potential of Oral History and Digital Archives in the Study of Contemporary History (using Uzbekistan and Post-Soviet Countries as an Example)»); Professor of the Department of History of Belarus and Special Historical Disciplines at Brest State University named after A.S.Pushkin, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.V.Zdanovich («Women of Belarus during the Great Patriotic War: Reflection of the Problem in Domestic Historiography»). Professor A.A.Guzhalovsky, Professor of the Department of Ethnology, Museology, and Art History of the Faculty of History of Belarusian State University, Doctor of Historical Sciences, addressed the conference participants («The Formation of the «New Woman» in the BSSR in 1919-1929»).

For their significant contributions to popularizing the documents of the National Archival Fund, I.V.Myshkovets, Leading Researcher of the M.Bogdanovich Collection Records and Storage Sector at the Maxim Bogdanovich Literary Museum, and S.N.Myasoedova, Leading Archivist of the Document Use and Publication Department at the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, were awarded Certificates of Honor from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus. T.V.Buevich, Deputy Director of the State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, and E.E.Krasnozhenova, Doctor of History and Professor of the Higher School of Social Sciences at Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, were awarded Certificates of Honor from the National Archives of the Republic of Belarus.

The conference was organized into four sections: «Archival Studies in Belarus in the 20th-21st Centuries: History, Methodology, and Practice», «Source Study Potential of Documents on the Modern History of Belarus and the Post-Soviet States (First Half of the 20th Century)», «The Great Patriotic War as Reflected in Historical Sources», and «Archival Documents as a Source for the Study of Historical Events (1944-2000s)».

The conference was attended by representatives of republican (NARB, National Historical Archives of Belarus, Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo and Sound Documents, Belarusian Research Institute of Documentation and Archival Affairs, Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art, National Historical Archive in Grodno), regional (State Archives of the Vitebsk Region, State Archives of Public Associations of the Gomel Region), zonal (Zonal State Archives in Glubokoye) archival institutions, institutions of higher education (BSU, Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts, Belarusian State Technical University, Belarusian State Agrarian Technical University, Polotsk State University named after Euphrosyne of Polotsk, Brest State University named after A.S.Pushkin), the Academy of Education, the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (Institute of History, Center for Research of Belarusian Culture, Language and Literature), state educational institutions (Vitebsk Cadet School, BSU Lyceum named after F.E.Dzerzhinsky), The National Library of Belarus, the Yakub Kolas Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, and museums (the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War, the Maxim Bogdanovich Literary Museum) participated in the conference.

The international component of the forum included researchers from the Graduate School of Social Sciences of Peter the Great St.Petersburg Polytechnic University, the S.I.Vavilov Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Russian State Humanitarian University, the V.M.Vasiliev Mari Research Institute of Language, Literature, and History, the State Archives of Administrative Bodies of the Sverdlovsk Region, the State Archives of the Pskov Region, the Documentation Center of Public Associations of the Sverdlovsk Region, and the Uzarhive Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Over 70 people participated in the conference.

A collection of articles is planned for publication based on the conference results.
