«Hero Fortress» on School Screens: A Lesson in Courage in Zhlobin
On May 6, 2026, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign, a meeting between staff of the «Zonal State Archives in Zhlobin» and ninth-grade students was held at Secondary School No.9 in Zhlobin. The event, timed to coincide with the 81st anniversary of the Great Victory, took on special significance within the walls of an institution that holds the honorary status of «School of Peace».
During the meeting, a joint exhibition project, «Time and Traditions», was presented, prepared by archivists and participants of the «Young Archivist» project. The exhibit recalled an important tradition of the past—the exchange of greeting cards. During the Soviet era, veterans received news from their friends from the front, the country’s leadership, and, of course, from schoolchildren. Today, this tradition is being revived: during the meeting, the students prepared greeting cards for May 9th for their families and friends. These messages became vehicles of gratitude to the generation of victors.
At the end of the meeting, the documentary film «Hero Fortress» was shown, provided by the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Audio Documents (BSAFPD). The newsreel footage allowed the students to deeply understand the courage of the defenders of the Brest Fortress, who bore the first blow from the enemy.
