The State Archives of the Vitebsk Region and the Vitebsk Regional Trade Union Association held a themed meeting, «Archively Important: The History of the Vitebsk Region in Faces. Women as Leaders», to mark the Year of Belarusian Women
The event took place on April 28, 2026, at the Vitebsk Regional Institute for Education Development. Participants were introduced to the stories of outstanding women who have made and continue to make significant contributions to the development of the republic and the Dvina region. Particular attention was paid to participants in the Great Patriotic War and Honorary Citizens of Vitebsk. Young tour guides — students from L.N.Filipenko Secondary School No.12, where the «Honorary Citizens of Vitebsk» Museum was established—told them stories.
A newsreel from the Belarusian State Archive of Film, Photo, and Sound Documents about famous women workers from Vitebsk, presented by Andrei Valerievich Kucher, a young specialist and archivist in the Documents and Information Department, generated great interest among viewers.
The speeches by Larisa Konstantinovna Olenskaya, former head of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee’s Department of Culture and recipient of the honorary title «Person of the Year of the Vitebsk Region 2016», and Irina Mikhailovna Polyakova, Chair of the Gorodok District Executive Committee and member of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus of the 7th convocation, were vibrant and emotional.
Musical and dance groups from Vitebsk Secondary School No.25 created a festive atmosphere at the event.
