A lesson at the Zonal State Archives in Kobrin as part of the «Young Archivist» project

As part of the «Young Archivist» project, a lesson was organized for schoolchildren on the intricacies of archival document accounting. Archive specialists not only explained but also demonstrated how this painstaking and responsible work is carried out.

The students learned that archival document accounting is a complex but extremely important process, which is now largely automated.

The students had a unique opportunity to become familiar with key accounting documents that form the foundation of any archive: the list of holdings, the register of archival document acquisitions, the holding sheet; the holding card; the inventory of permanent storage files, the inventory register, the passports of archival storage facilities and the state archive, information on changes in the composition and size of holdings, etc.

The students were particularly interested in learning about the holding file—a clear example of how information about each holding is compiled and stored. The specialists explained in detail the purpose of accounting documents and their functions, emphasizing their indispensability for preserving historical memory.

The lesson culminated with a demonstration of the automated accounting process. The students saw how the «Accounting» software module registers documents for permanent storage and how all the necessary accounting documents are automatically generated. This allowed the students to take a fresh look at the archivist’s profession, realizing that it not only requires attentiveness and precision but is also closely linked to modern technology.

The archive lesson was not just an educational activity for the students, but a true immersion into the world of archival accounting.
