February 14, 2026, marks the 120th anniversary of the birth of Nikolai Nikolaevich Ulashchik (1906–1986), a prominent researcher of the Belarusian past. He was a pioneer in the centralized state archival system of Belarus and a renowned archaeographer, historian, bibliographer, local historian, source specialist, and memoirist.
The Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art (hereinafter referred to as BGAMLI) has prepared a virtual exhibition «The Epistolary Legacy of Nikolai Ulashchik in the Belarusian State Archives-Museum of Literature and Art». During his lifetime, N.N.Ulashchik maintained an active correspondence with many figures in Belarusian science and literature. His letters, postcards, and notes are held in various personal collections at BGAMLI. They simultaneously reflect private connections, memories, the creative exchange of news, thoughts, and ideas, and the consideration of controversial issues. Some of N.N.Ulashchik’s documents from the archive-museum collection have already been published, but the majority await their researchers and publishers. They should attract the attention of not only archaeographers and biographers, but also anyone genuinely interested in the history and culture of our country.
Furthermore, on February 13, 2026, the Belarusian State Archive-Museum of Literature and Art will host a roundtable discussion dedicated to the 120th anniversary of N.N.Ulashchik’s birth. Professional source scholars and bibliographers studying the life and work of this outstanding researcher will participate.
