On the Zonal State Archives in Novogrudok holding a thematic lesson at Secondary School No.5 in Novogrudok

On January 29, 2026, as part of the «Archives for School» campaign and the «School of Active Citizens» informational and educational project, the Zonal State Archives in Novogrudok held a thematic informational hour for 9th-grade students at Secondary School No.5 in Novogrudok.

During the meeting, the students were introduced to the virtual documentary exhibition «The Holocaust as One of the Manifestations of Genocide in the Novogrudok Region During the Great Patriotic War», dedicated to International Holocaust Remembrance Day (January 27). From the exhibition’s documents and photographs, students learned about the centuries-old history of the Navahrudak Jewish community, the mass extermination of Jews during the occupation as a result of four punitive actions that were part of Hitler’s «Final Solution» policy, as well as a unique case of Jewish resistance and an unprecedented escape of ghetto prisoners through a tunnel.

At the end of the meeting, the students discussed the importance of maintaining peace on earth, respect for people regardless of their nationality or religion, preventing future genocide, and the importance of preserving historical memory and the truth about the events of the Great Patriotic War.
